Rockwell Automation’s decision to establish a new 98,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Chennai reflects this transition. The company said the location would help “increase agility and productivity in the region” while strengthening its Asia-Pacific supply chain. The facility was planned alongside its existing CUBIC operation, with space for future expansion and an employment target of about 230 workers.

Although every Chennai industrial investment does not sit within Oragadam itself, the wider Sriperumbudur–Oragadam manufacturing ecosystem benefits from the clustering of advanced automation, electronics and engineering capability. Suppliers, system integrators, technical talent and logistics networks operate across corridor boundaries.

This is particularly relevant for Oragadam because its established manufacturers are themselves adopting Industry 4.0 systems, automation, energy management and digital quality control. The arrival and expansion of technology-led industrial companies strengthens the support environment needed for that upgrade.

The employment profile also changes. Advanced manufacturing creates demand for engineers, programmers, technicians, data specialists and maintenance professionals—not only assembly-line labour. Their housing and lifestyle expectations are correspondingly higher.
